Giant redwoods to be nurtured in Oregon

Scientists are busy recreating a redwood old-growth forest near Port Orford, hoping that saplings will sprout and grow into 400-foot giants.
Rooted cuttings from huge coast redwoods and giant sequoias will be planted on four acres located roughly halfway between Coos Bay and Crescent City, Calif. One of the cuttings comes from the stump of an ancient redwood chopped down near Eureka in 1890, and its immense diameter – 33 feet – suggests the tree reached 400 feet high.
